Taiwanese Bakery makes a killer sea salt iced coffee
This week, we ventured to Irvine's Diamond Jamboree plaza for an indulgent shopping spree at 85c Bakery. Wallet in hand, I braved the 15-minute lines out the door for a taste of the bakery's famous Taiwanese pastries. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Try the half-moon cake, made with soft vanilla sponge cake, cream and coconut shavings, or the sweet and satisfying Berrytale blueberry cream cheese bun. But the ultimate indulgence that keeps me returning time and time again is their Iced Sea Salt Coffee.
85c's Sea Salt Coffee is unlike anything I've had before. It's made with a sweetened, milky iced coffee that's topped with salted whipped cream. Although it's served with plastic wrap over the cup, be sure to tear it off and drink the coffee through the whipped cream.
You can easily make an afternoon out of your visit. Aside from 85C, the Diamond Jamboree Plaza is home to a variety of Asian eateries, from sushi restaurants and ramen houses to fun and funky boba bars (such as Lollicup).
Can't make it anytime soon? Here's my version of the 85c sea salt coffee recipe, which is still a work in progress. Fill a large glass halfway full with iced coffee. Sweeten and add cream to taste (try sweetened condensed milk). Top with a few generous dollops of salted whipped cream, made with roughly 1/2 cup homemade whipped cream whisked with 1-2 pinches of sea salt. Sprinkle with a dash of dark cocoa powder and enjoy!
