One of the desert's most legendary hideaways, the historic La Quinta Palm Springs never fails to impress.

This sprawling resort, which opened in 1926, was once a favorite hideaway for Hollywood celebrities. Today, the La Quinta Resort and Club still shines, combining Old World Spanish-style touches with modern conveniences throughout the property.

During your stay, take your pick of more than 796 casitas, suites or spa villas. For the ultimate Palm Springs vacation rental, check out their private residences, which include luxury homes and condos.

The La Quinta Palm Springs Resort sits on 45 acres below the Santa Rosa Mountains. Surrounded by fragrant citrus groves, the resort is considered Mecca for the golf enthusiast. With five championship golf courses (designed by Pet Dye, Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman) — including three PGA West courses — you'll find plenty of greens to practice on. In fact, the La Quinta Palm Springs golf resort is known as the Western home of golf in America. Book Tee Times.

If you're feeling a little rusty, no need to worry. The La Quinta in Palm Springs also boasts the top golf school in America, the Jim McLean Golf School. For more outdoor activities, take your pick of 23 tennis courts!

Though winter is best for golf, the summer is all about the pool scene, and the La Quinta Resort and Club Palm Springs boasts 41 pools and 53 hot spas throughout the property. If you have children along, check out the Main Pool, which has a playground and private cabanas.

For a bit of pampering, don't miss a visit to their 23,000-square-foot Spa La Quinta. This luxury spa offers many of its treatments alfresco, ranging from therapeutic Desert Rose baths to their signature Celestial Shower, a 10-minute massaging spray that's a delightful beginning to your services.

Many spa treatments are inspired by the local Native Americans, ranging from the Cahuilla Sage Cocoon body treatment to the Sacred Stone Therapy massage. Golfers will appreciate the spa's PGA West Golf Massage, pinpointing the area's most affected by the sport. The Desert Match Tennis Massage is another favorite.

What I love best? Your children can enjoy a spa treatment along with you in the couple's massage room. Guests under 18 have a fun mix of spa menu options, including the Sun Dancer Facial, Orange & Cream Massage, or Island Sunset Body Cocoon.  View Spa Menu. To book a La Quinta spa treatment, call 760-777-4800.

With four separate options, including the renowned Morgan's in the Desert led by James Beard award-winning chef Jimmy Schmidt, there's no need to dine off the resort. Considered one of the best restaurants in the Coachella Valley, Morgan's is known for its seasonally-inspired cuisine and Friday Night Winemaker Series. Start out with an Agave Gingerita, shaken on the rocks with tequila, ginger liqueur and lime, followed by an Artisan Cheese Plate drizzled with honey and toasted nuts.

Cool and warm small plates rule here — but you can also choose from a variety of large courses including Rack of Pistachio-Crusted Colorado Lamb with baby artichokes, or Prime Certified Angus Beef crusted with Crispy Parmesan, Maytag Blue Cheese or Nuske Smoked Bacon. Top it off with house-made sea salt, sweet garlic, smoked paprika or parmesan fries and it's a bit of steak-lover's heaven. Dinner only, 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Call 760-564-7600 for reservations.

La Quinta Resort and Spa Palm Springs restaurants also include Ernie's Bar & Grill, a sports bar inside the tournament clubhouse at PGA West; Twenty6, a retro-themed eatery known for its classic American cuisine; and Adobe Grill, a Palm Springs Mexican restaurant known for its selection of more than 50 premium tequilas. While you're here, don't miss the homemade churros with chocolate sauce and marshmallows, or the original adobe bricks used to build the first La Quinta Hotel Palm Springs resort in 1926.

La Quinta Resort & Club is located at 49-499 Eisenhower Drive, La Quinta, CA 92253. For information and reservations, call (760) 564-4111, or toll-free, 1-800-598-3828; or visit www.laquintaresort.com.
